Description

Sharpen writing skills and reading comprehension with our Apostrophes Lesson Plan, which demonstrates how to identify and use apostrophes in writing, including possessives, contractions, and for other uses.  Leverage both collaborative learning and sensory stimulation as students work in pairs and move about the classroom or other areas to complete the activities.  Build confidence as students share their responses with the class.

Sample Classroom Procedure / Teacher Resource Snippet:

  1. Display a giant apostrophe for all students to see. Ask students if they know anything about the symbol.
  2. Allow for responses and discussion.
  3. Introduce the students to the apostrophe.
  4. Distribute the Apostrophes worksheet. Read and review the information, adding other example for students’ understanding.
  5. Distribute the Activity page to every student. Review the instructions.
  6. Pair students.
  7. Allow students to walk around the room, or do the activity outdoors, in the hallway, or another location.
  8. Once students are completed, bring the class together and allow students to share some of the responses.
  9. Distribute the Practice page and review once all students have completed it.
  10. Distribute the Homework page, review and check the next day. Students’ answers may vary.
