You will love our Basic Statistics Lesson plan!  It will provide a comprehensive overview for your student(s) and will give them great activities to help cement in their learning.  After successfully completing and studying the included materials the students will be able to define statistics and its relative terms such as mean, median, mode and range; and identify uses for statistics.

Classroom Procedure / Teacher Instruction Sample:

1. Take a quick survey, by show of hands, asking students a set of related questions. (For example: What is your favorite ice cream? chocolate/vanilla. What is your favorite food to eat with it? cake/pie. What is your favorite drink with ice cream? soda/water.)

2. Record and display the results and then ask students: How would knowing this information help someone? Who would be helped most by this information? How can this information be interpreted?

3. Allow for responses and discussion. (Possible responses: an ice cream shop owner stocking more of one flavor than another, grocery store owner using it to better advertise ice cream, etc.)

4. Ask students if they have ever heard the term statistics? Allow for responses.
