Description

Expand critical thinking skills with our Cause and Effect Lesson Plan where students will be able to identify the cause and effect of actions and events presented in sentences, paragraphs, and other reading content. The students will be able to write sentences/paragraphs using causes and effects.  Develop communication skills and build confidence as students share their scenarios with the group.

Sample Classroom Procedure / Teacher Resources Snippet:

  1. Display several cause and effect statements. Ask students what each of the statements have in common.
  2. Allow for responses and discussion until the students recognize each sentence shows a cause and effect.
  3. Distribute the Cause and Effect content page. Read and review the information, using additional examples as necessary, checking for understanding by verbally quizzing students.
  4. Distribute the Activity page. Pair students.
  5. Review the instructions for the activity. Allow students to complete the activity with their partner.
  6. Once completed, students may volunteer their listed causes, effects, and sentences.
  7. Distribute the Practice page. Allow students class time to complete the work. Stress to students they must use each cause/effect at least once.
  8. Once completed, allow students to share some of their sentences.
  9. Distribute the Homework page. Review the instructions.
  10. Encourage students to be creative, but to also include cause and effect statements. (They may use extra paper if necessary.)
