Description

Engage students with grouping strategies for diving whole numbers without remainders using our Division No Remainders Lesson Plan.  This interactive lesson enables students to practically explore how to group objects using manipulatives and solidifies their understanding of grouping strategies for dividing whole numbers with no remainder.

Sample Classroom Procedure / Teacher Instruction

  1. Begin by explaining to students that to divide means to share equally.
  2. While reading the content pages, reinforce vocabulary and give students additional examples of the five strategies of division. Use the additional resources to enhance understanding.
  3. Introduce the notes on division. Have students practice grouping objects using manipulatives such as cubes or pennies. Use the additional resources to enhance understanding.
  4. Allow students time to practice various ways to divide objects.
  5. Follow Activity page with students. Hand out packages or cups of M&Ms to students to use as a manipulative.
  6. Distribute Practice page. Check and review the students’ responses. Have students check their answers with a partner.
  7. Distribute the Homework page. Explain that they should draw a picture of themselves in the middle and create division questions that give the answers to the information.
  8. In closing, ask students about times in their lives when they had to share equally.
  9. Allow for responses and discussion.
