Description

Students will improve their basic counting skills with this lesson. Working with numbers 11 to 19, students will be able to identify the numbers and be able to place them in order according to place value. They will also learn the vocabulary that corresponds to the lesson.

Sample Teacher Guideline Snippet

  1. Begin by counting to students starting at one and ending at nineteen.
  2. While reading the content pages, reinforce the new vocabulary.  Use the additional resources to enhance understanding.
  3. Introduce the notes on eleven to nineteen.  Have students practice problems that involve number expansion with place value.  Use the additional resources to enhance understanding.
  4. Have students count out loud from eleven to nineteen as a whole class.
  5. Follow Activity page with students.  Have students work individually or in pairs.  Circulate within the room in order to make sure that students are correctly creating their chains.
  6. Distribute Practice page.  Check and review the students’ responses as a class.
  7. Distribute the Homework page.  Have students work a few problems at the beginning of the next class to reinforce the vocabulary.
  8. In closing, ask for student volunteers to count from eleven to nineteen. 
  9. Allow for responses and discussion.
