Description

Our Equal Parts Lesson Plan builds vocabulary as students define, recognize, and use the terms for equal parts such as halves, fourths, quarters and other terms related to parts of a whole.  Leveraging manipulatives that engage the sensory system, this interactive lesson engages critical thinking skills while solidifying understanding.

Classroom Procedure / Teacher Instruction Sample:

1. Display two circles and two squares, one of each cut into unequal parts, the others in equal parts. Ask students: What is the same and different with the images?

2. Allow for responses and discussion. Ask students if they believe everything can be cut into equal parts.

3. Allow for responses and instructions. Introduce Equal Parts.

4. Distribute Equal Parts content pages. Read and review the information with the students. Use the additional resources to enhance understanding. (Use hands-on manipulatives if available to enhance understanding.)

5. Distribute Activity page. Read and review the instructions. Distribute supplies. Allow students sufficient time to complete the activity. Circulate through the room to ensure understanding and to give students assistance when needed.
