#### Classroom Procedure:

1. Begin by explaining to students that we can expand numbers like an accordion.
2. While reading the content pages, reinforce place value and give students additional examples of problems in order to help them practice expanding numbers.  Use the additional resources to enhance understanding.
3. Introduce the notes on expanding number forms. Have students practice problems where they must expand the number as well as where they must write the number in standard form.  Use the additional resources to enhance understanding.
4. Have students practice problems.
5. Follow Activity page with students. Have students work individually.  Read and write a number on the board.  Have students model the expanded number form using their disks.
6. Distribute Practice page. Check and review the students’ responses as a class.
