Our fun, interactive Famous Artists Lesson Plan stimulates creativity and critical thinking as students practice observing the details and style of art work from several famous artists, including O’Keeffe and Picasso.  Students tap into their own creative expression with activities to recreate or use as inspiration the work of a famous artist in their own unique interpretation.  Celebrate individuality while developing attention to detail as students both critique the work of others and produce their own works of art.

Sample Classroom Procedure / Teacher Instruction

1.Have a print of one painting by each artist at the front of the room. Ask your students to make observations about the paintings and have an open discussion about what they see and feel. Explain the upcoming lesson to them.
2. Hand out the lesson page about the first artist. Review it together as a class.
3. Talk about the style of the painting and look at the painting more closely.
4. Do the artist’s activity.
5. Hand out the homework to be returned at the last day of the lesson.
6. Hand out lesson page about second artist and review it together as a class.
7. Look closely at the artist’s work. Talk about the style and ask class to make observations about the artist’s work.
8. Do the activity related to artist.
9. Hand out 3rd lesson sheet and review as a class.
10.Discuss the work and style of the 3rd artist.
11. Do the activity for 3rd artist.
12.Hand out final lesson page and review as a class.
13.Observe and discuss final artist’s work.
14.Do the final activity
15.Hand out and have students complete the practice
quiz page.
