Description

Our Introduction to Flight Lesson Plan explores the concepts related to flight, as well as how it relates to airplanes, kites, and balloons.  Engage critical thinking and solidify understanding with the hands-on activities and additional resources.

Sample Classroom Procedure:

  1. After students are ready for the lesson, release the premade paper airplane and fly it across the classroom from the front of the room towards the back.
  2. Ask students: Why was the paper airplane able to remain in the air for such a long period of time?
  3. Allow for responses and discussion.
  4. Ask students: Name as many things as possible, living or manmade, that are able to fly, stay in the air for a reasonable period of time.
  5. List the responses for display and allow for discussion.
  6. Ask students what the items on the list may have in common.
  7. Distribute the Introduction to Flight content page and read along and review with students during class. (You may also wish to have students read it again for homework.)
