Sample Classroom Procedure / Teacher Resources Snippet:

  1. Distribute a single potato chip or more to each student. Ask: How long ago do you think the potato chip was invented?
  2. Allow for responses and discussion. Tell students the potato chip idea came about when someone did not want a thick potato to eat, but wanted something thinner.
  3. Lead the discussion to inventions in general, and the many inventions, events, and people of the Late 19th
  4. Distribute the Late 19th Century content pages. Read and review the information with the students, responding to questions, allowing for discussion, etc. Save the final question for closing step, but tell students to think about it.
  5. Remind students there is much more to be learned about the century besides what is included in the content pages.
