Description

Our Laws and Rules Lesson Plan compares and contrasts rules and laws including the consequences of not following them.  The lesson’s engaging activities solidify the definitions, similarities and differences of rules and laws.  Generalize understanding by challenging students to explore real-world examples of rules and laws, including general consequences for breaking them, which also strengthens analytical and critical thinking skills.

Classroom Procedure / Teacher Instruction Sample:

  1. Display and read the following to students: “No chewing gum.” & “No hitting others.” Ask: What is the same and different about the statements?
  2. Allow for responses and discussion. Record the responses in two columns: Same/Different.
  3. Ask students if they understand the term “consequences” and how it relates to the two statements.
  4. Allow for responses and discussion. Introduce laws and rules.
  5. Distribute Laws and Rules content pages. Read and review the information with the students. Be sure to emphasize that in some homes the rules are different than in other homes, or between classrooms at school. Save the final question for the lesson closing. Use the additional resources to enhance understanding.

Great lesson plan and information

I loved using this lesson plan. It was very detailed and provided a very clear and easy process by which to explain the concepts of rules and laws to my 5-year-old.
