Sample Classroom Procedure / Teacher Resources Snippet:

  1. Introduce the numbered items in the classroom to the students. Ask students what #s 1, 2, 3 have in common (all things), #s 4, 5, 6 (all places), etc.  (Attach a number to yourself, another student, picture on the wall for the people category.)
  2. Distribute Nouns content pages. Read and review the information with the students.  Stress the difference between each category, and the difference between common and proper nouns.  (Save final question for lesson closing.) Use the additional resources to enhance understanding.
  3. Distribute Activity page. Read and review the instructions.  Distribute scissors and glue/paste.  Once all students are completed allow volunteers to share their responses and examples of proper nouns.
  4. Distribute Practice page. Check and review the students’ responses.
  5. Distribute the Homework page. The next day, check and review the students’ responses.
  6. In closing, allow students to respond to the question: Do you have a favorite person, place, or thing in your life? Why?
  7. Allow for responses and discussion.
