Solidify number awareness with our Number Lines Lesson Plan as students define and correctly use a number line for adding, subtracting and skip-counting.  This interactive lesson stimulates the sensory systems with the practical application of creating an accurate number line with construction paper and other supplies, while it reinforcing understanding of how to use a number line to solve math problems.

Classroom Procedure / Teacher Instruction Sample:

1. Ask: How many different ways are numbers used?
2. Allow for responses and discussion. Display a list of responses.
3. Ask: What can be used to list numbers in order from smallest to largest?
4. Allow for responses and discussion. Introduce the number line.
5. Distribute Number Lines content pages. Read and review the information with the students. Display number lines and demonstrate more examples. Use the additional resources to enhance understanding.
6. Distribute Activity pages. Read and review the instructions. Distribute all supplies, including strips of construction paper for the number lines. Explain to students how to use a ruler to draw straight lines with approximately the same increment spaces between number line digits.

### Number Lines

I used this packet with a group of 2nd grade children who struggle with math concepts with excellent results. The information is written in clear language that they can understand. I will use this again next year!
