Description

Our Recycling Lesson Plan examines what it means to recycle,  identifies common items that are recycled, and lists the three steps to successful recycling.  With the experiential learning opportunities in this lesson, students understand how to sort recyclable material and solidify understanding of the concept of recycling.

Sample Classroom Procedure:

  1. Pair students.
  2. Without using the word “recycle” distribute the supplies to each pair and the activity instructions.
  3. Tell students the supplies are some things that were going to be thrown away.
  4. Review the instructions with the students. Remind students to write down the kinds of materials they are using.
  5. Encourage each pair of students to use as many of their materials as possible without having any leftovers.
  6. Students may cut apart items if necessary, use the string, ribbon, etc.
  7. Set a predetermined amount of time for the students to complete the activity.
