Our Rights and Responsibilities Lesson Plan explores the relationship between rights and responsibilities in everyday life and society. After successfully completing and studying the interactive materials, students will be able to define rights and responsibilities, as well as give examples of each.  This lesson also engage creativity while solidifying understanding with hands-on activity.

Description

Our Rights and Responsibilities Lesson Plan explores the relationship between rights and responsibilities in everyday life and society. After successfully completing and studying the interactive materials, students will be able to define rights and responsibilities, as well as give examples of each.  This lesson also engage creativity while solidifying understanding with hands-on activity.

Classroom Procedure / Teacher Instruction Sample:

  1. Display the words Right and Responsibility. Ask students to share what they believe each word means to them.
  2. Allow for responses and discussion. List responses under each word. Ask students what they think is different about each term.
  3. Allow for responses and discussion. Introduce rights and responsibilities to the class.
  4. Distribute Rights and Responsibilities content pages. Read and review the information with the students. Save the final two questions for the lesson closing. Use the additional resources to enhance understanding.
  5. Distribute Activity page. Read and review the instructions. Distribute colored pencils and give access to old magazines or other resources for images. You may also allow students to only make sketches of matching images.

Rights and Responsibilities

I used this short lesson with my 6 and 10 year old at the same time. It has been so helpful explaining basic rights and responsibilities, and why we need to be aware of them. We have referred back to this lesson several times since learning the differences. Thank you!
