Description

Journey across the world while identifying common symbols with our Symbols in the World Lesson Plan.  This engaging lesson prepares student to identify and describe significant symbols in the world.  Stimulate concept imagery with hands-on activities that provide practice for students to solidify understanding.

Sample Classroom Procedure / Teacher Resources Snippet:

  1. Display the Statue of Liberty and a few other symbols of the United States. Ask students if they know the meaning of the symbols.
  2. Allow for responses and discussion.
  3. Ask students if they know of symbols or landmarks from other countries.
  4. Allow for responses and discussion.
  5. Tell students that all countries of the world have a single symbol: the flag.
  6. Distribute the Symbols in the World content pages. Read and review the information with the students. Use additional resources to expose the students to more symbols from around the world.
  7. Distribute the Activity pages, which include a continent map showing the countries of the world.
  8. Distribute glue. Review the instructions. Give students sufficient time to glue the symbols in the correct areas of the world. They may use the content pages for help. (The symbols may simply be placed in their areas.)
  9. Review the students’ work. Check for understanding.
  10. Distribute the Practice page. Check and review the completed work.

Social Studies

I loved using these resources. They were a nice way to start a mini unit and the students loved the color.
